Northrend is a mercenary band originally founded by a group of Forsaken who had been part of Arthas' veow Frostmourne had changed him.
They had followed Arthas through thick and thin and he repaid that loyality by taking away their wills.

An oath was made during the reunion of the group: A promise to never to let anyone betray them again. They would be loyal to only themselves. No leader would lead through an institution or by tradition, but by charisma and wisdom. Leadership should be earned through wisdom, loyality earned through action. They named their group Northrend, so as to not forget their origins and ideals. The symbol of Arthas' betrayal, Frostmourne is depicted on each member's tabard.

At first under Sylvanas' rule, the group was assigned to Thunder Bluff to help the Forsaken build their colony under the Spirit Rise. During that time the group swelled with several of the hooved race. There were many Tauren who had gotten used to war and did not fit in well to the peaceful life on Thunder Bluff. Northrend transformed into a more heterogenic group with common ideals rather than origins. Many of the group are misfits in their society, scarred by war and conflict. It is no wonder (then) that loyality to their leader and to each other is very strong among the group's members.

Most of the founding Forsaken have died a final death but their ideals and stories live on in the group. Camaraderie and loyality to friends are prominent of the groups stories and values. A warrior who risks his life for his comrades is well respected in the band.
Once a Northrend member considers you a friend, you know you got your back covered for life. Of course, once you hurt a Northrender, you know you get the hatred of the whole band bearing on you.

As a mercenary group, Northrend has its share of reckless people who are keen on violence. But there are many who are not that keen on battle too. Lots of disposessed people have joined the group, from sages and explorers to holymen and -women. Ages vary from near-ancient to juvenile and there are even some families in the group.

Almost mythic tales of of the group's founders are common campfire tales among the Northrenders, strengthening the common values and bonds in the group. A code of honor, of sorts, guides the life of its members. Making up for one's past mistakes and growing wiser is a central idea on many of the tales.
There is no shame in making mistakes.
But there is however shame in not learning from you mistakes, or in not trying to make up for them.
Learning trough experience and hardship is always better than someone merely telling you what to do or how to behave.
Many younger members of the band are energetic, proud and willful, balanced by the more prudent and wiser elders. Joining the group can be hard, as the oldtimers are always suspectful of newcomers before they prove themselves as trustworthy, which can take some time.

As a group Northrend behaves between being a paramilitary band and an extended family unit, composed of fierce individuals working together for whatever
